Taking the measurement

How To Measure Her

A soft tape, sixty seconds and a treat.

Step one

Stand her up

On all four legs, standing normally. A treat held just out of reach does most of the work.

Step two

Wrap the tape behind her front legs

Around the widest part of her chest. Across her fur, not through it to the skin.

Step three

Snug, with room for one finger

You should be able to slide a finger under. Write the number down. That is the whole job.

You do not need her back or her neck. They sit on the chart below as a double-check.

Three Things That Catch People Out

Almost every wrong size comes down to one of these.

One

Weight will lie to you

Two dogs can weigh the same and be two sizes apart. A chunky corgi and a slim whippet need completely different dresses. Her chest is the answer.

Two

Her back will look too long

Our dresses stop above her tail by design, so her back measures longer than the chart. That is the cut, not a fit problem. Sizing up to chase it leaves the chest too loose, and it is the mistake we see most.

Three

Fluff and buttons both add a size

Measure across a thick coat, never through it, and size up if she falls between two. Fairydew pulls on over her head rather than buttoning, so it wants one size up too.

Your Fit, Answered

The bigger one. A little room sits better and moves better, especially on fluffier bodies and in-between builds, and it is far more comfortable for her than a dress that pulls.
