What Size Dog Dress Fits Your Breed

One measurement decides her size: chest girth, the widest part just behind her front legs, measured across her fur. Below is what that number usually looks like for large and fluffy breeds, so you can start here and confirm with a tape measure.

Large breed sizing, female dogs

A real dog, for reference. Ice Bear is a 40 lb samoyed with a 25.5 in chest and a 15 in neck. Measured against our chart she is technically an XXL, but she wears a 3XL in our buttoned styles and needs the extra room of a 3XL in Fairydew, our only pull-on style, because of her neck ruff.

Three things that change her size beyond chest measurement

Coat. Thick or double-coated breeds (samoyeds, huskies, german shepherds) should size up from the chart if they are between two sizes. Measure across the fur, not through it.

Closure. Fairydew is Fluffit's only pull-on style, no buttons, worn over the head and front legs. It needs more room than our buttoned styles at the same chest measurement. Take the next size up in Fairydew specifically if she has a thick ruff or a broad head.

Sex. Females typically run about an inch narrower in the chest than males of the same breed. It is a real difference, but a small one next to coat and closure.

Weight is not a reliable way to size a dress. Two dogs of the same weight can be a full size apart depending on build. Chest girth is the number that actually decides whether it closes.
